2015: Our favorite images of the year

2015 has gone by so quickly. It started with a missed fireworks display at San Francisco (we just fell asleep after the long flight…) and a nice sunrise at Marin County. Pretty amazing to see so many people out there at the Conzelman Road on January 1st!
During the following 3 weeks we enjoyed the Pacific Coast, the deserts in the Southwest (among them Anza Borrego, Mojave and Death Valley) and some really great and warm weather. Quite different than our second trip this year, where we had a few bad winter storms and a really scary blizzard while driving around in Northern Iceland. But there were also two fantastic, neverending northern lights displays at the famous glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon and near the town of Höfn. We also loved our this year’s Ice Cave Tour. The cave was named “Northern Lights Cave” for a pretty obvious reason and it ranks high up on our (steadily growing…) list of truly unforgettable places in Iceland.

After a short trip to Spain in late May (revisiting the Basque Coast, Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia as well as Nacedero de Urredera) we went back to our beloved island. And once again, autumn turned out to be our favorite time in Iceland, not only because of the highlands being less crowded and the turning of the leaves around Lake Myvatn, on the artic tundra and on all those mossy lava fields. It’s because the nights were even more colorful! One geomagnetic storm after another hit the Earth while we were there and we could hardly believe our eyes – night after night! But we also missed the moon and the snow for the aurora photography. And we returned home after this trip looking and feeling just like zombies…

We took so many images in Iceland this year that we decided just to show a couple of them here among our favorites.
